Booking lip filler for a weekend in Seoul and stuck on one question before you pick the date: “lip filler how long does bruising last,” and will it still show when you're back at work on Monday?
Read this before you choose the day.
You'll know how a lip bruise usually changes day by day, which methods lower the odds, what lip filler reviews get right and wrong, and what decides the cost. That's enough to pick a date that fits your trip and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kang Kyoungjin, Representative Director of Pascal Clinic.
I hold a PhD in anatomy and taught anatomy at a medical school before moving into plastic surgery, and fillers are one of my focus areas. Pascal publishes its filler prices per session, and the clinic is a short walk from Sinsa Station Exit 8, open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00.
I wrote this because people often read any lip bruise as a sign the injection went wrong, then plan a trip with no room for an ordinary one.
A bruise after lip filler usually fades over about a week, sometimes closer to two, and tends to look darkest a day or two after treatment. Plenty of people don't bruise at all, but if your lips have to look ordinary by a set date, plan as if you will.
If your dates are tight, send a front photo of your lips in daylight on WhatsApp with the day you'd come in and the day you need to look presentable, and ask whether that gap is enough.

A bruise is blood that leaked from a small vessel the needle passed and now sits under the skin. The lip is full of small vessels, and its two main arteries, the upper and lower labial arteries, run inside the lip itself. The skin and lining on top are thin, so a little blood shows as a purple patch where on the cheek it might stay hidden.
Careful technique lowers the odds of a bruise. It can't remove them, because no one can see every tiny vessel from the surface. The American Academy of Dermatology lists bruising and swelling among the expected side effects of fillers.
Thin, vessel-rich skin bruises the same way around the eyes, which is why recovery timing also comes up with buried-suture double eyelid surgery in Seoul.
Doctor's note
Good results start, for me, from knowing exactly where the structures sit, not from feel. In the lip that means where the vessels run and how the muscle moves when you talk and smile. A lip has to work well before it can look good, and a lip that moves stiffly isn't a success even if it never bruised.
Lip filler how long does bruising last, day by day
In short, this is the usual course of a lip filler bruise and lip filler swelling when nothing unusual happens. Use it to plan; your own lips may move a little faster or slower.
| When | What you usually see | What it means for plans |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Pinpoint marks, firm swelling, sometimes a red or bluish spot | Ice in short spells; skip alcohol and hard exercise |
| Days one and two | Swelling at its fullest; a bruise often looks darkest | The days people most want to stay off camera |
| Days three to five | Bruise turns green, then yellow, and shrinks | Concealer usually covers it once the marks have closed |
| End of the first week | Most bruises are faint or gone | Work, photos and meetings are usually fine |
| Around two weeks | Swelling settled, shape easier to judge | A sensible point to decide whether you want more |
The colour change is the bruise breaking down. Green and yellow mean it's on its way out, so a yellow patch on day four is a good sign, not a new problem. A bruise that grows, stays dark purple past the first week, or comes with throbbing pain deserves a look.
Bruising after body procedures such as arm contouring in Seoul moves through the same colours over a much larger area. On the lip it's small, but it sits in the middle of your face, so the timing matters more than the size.
How should a short trip fit around a bruise?
Say you teach English in Busan and have one free Saturday. You come in on Saturday morning (the clinic is closed on Sundays and public holidays), take the train home that evening, and walk into class on Monday. Monday is day two, the day a bruise usually looks its worst.
If a visible mark in front of a class would bother you, I'd move the filler to the first day of a school break, so the darkest days pass before anyone sees you. If the weekend is all you have, go ahead knowing you may want concealer on Monday and Tuesday.
Visitors flying in from abroad face the same arithmetic with flights instead of trains. The first week is mostly cosmetic, so flying home in the middle of it is common; what you give up is the chance to be seen again in person if something looks off. The CDC's guidance on medical tourism suggests arranging follow-up care before you travel, and that holds for small treatments too.
Lip filler sits at the small end of the recovery scale. Surgery on the face runs on a different calendar, as the questions in our post on revision double jaw surgery and relapse show.
When you write, add a side photo of your lips and the dates you'll be in Korea, and ask which day of your stay leaves the most room before you need to look presentable.

On the technique side, fewer needle passes and a slow, small-volume injection give fewer chances to catch a vessel. Some doctors use a blunt cannula for parts of the lip, which tends to bruise less, though it doesn't suit every part of the lip and doesn't rule a bruise out. I choose the gel and the amount with you at the consultation, after looking at your lips; that choice shapes swelling more than bruising.
Hyaluronic acid filler has one practical advantage for travelers. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that this type of filler can be dissolved with an enzyme, hyaluronidase, if a problem comes up.
On your side, blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo, and pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen, make bruising more likely. If you take them for your own comfort, ask whether to pause them before your visit. If a doctor prescribed a blood thinner, never stop it for a cosmetic treatment; tell us about it instead. Alcohol the night before works the same way on a smaller scale.
For lip filler aftercare, ice in short spells on the first day and sleeping with your head a little raised help. Heat, saunas and hard workouts in the first day or two tend to make bruising and swelling worse.
What do lip filler reviews get right about bruising?
Review threads repeat a handful of claims. “A bruise means a bad injector” isn't true on its own; the lip is vascular enough that bruises happen with careful technique. “Ice helps” is true for the first day, mostly for swelling.
“Arnica makes it disappear overnight” is hopeful. Studies on arnica after cosmetic procedures are mixed, and it won't shrink a bruise to a day. “Cannulas never bruise” overstates it; they reduce the odds.
The claim worth taking seriously is the one people wave away: “it's just a bruise” when the skin is pale, blotchy and getting more painful. That pattern is covered below, and it needs an answer the same day.
What decides the cost of lip filler?
The total depends on how much gel your lips need, which product is used, and whether only the lips are treated or the border and the area around the mouth too. Two more factors: whether old filler has to be dissolved first, and whether you'll be in Seoul long enough for a follow-up look.
Pascal's filler prices are published per session in Korean won, before 10% VAT, and the final quote follows your exam, because the right amount depends on your anatomy. To get the figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost, with a photo of your lips and the result you want.
When a mark on your lip isn't a bruise
A bruise is flat, starts red or purple, fades through green and yellow, and gets less tender each day. A few other things can look similar at first, and one of them matters a lot.
Risks and side effects to know
Common and temporary: swelling, tenderness, small bruises, redness at the needle marks and some firmness, usually easing over days to about two weeks. Small lumps can be felt early and often soften as the swelling settles. The FDA's page on dermal fillers also lists rarer problems, including infection, lumps that persist and filler entering a blood vessel.
That last one is the one to know. If filler blocks a vessel, the skin can turn pale or white, then blotchy, dusky or mottled, with pain that builds instead of fading. A bruise doesn't behave that way. Seek care the same day, and if your vision changes, go to an emergency department straight away.
Who should wait or skip it, as a general rule: anyone with a cold sore or infection on or near the lips, a recent laser or peel around the mouth, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a known allergy to a filler ingredient or to the numbing agent lidocaine, recent isotretinoin, or a bleeding disorder. Filler can also set off a cold sore in people prone to them, so mention it if you are. Your surgeon confirms suitability at an in-person exam, and risks are explained before you decide. Individual results vary.
If something appears after you're home, take daylight photos, see a local doctor or urgent care for anything pale, mottled or worsening, and message us with the photos and your treatment date.
A bruise leaves nothing behind once it clears. A raised or uneven line on the lip from an old injury is a scar, a separate topic covered in scar revision surgery in Seoul.
Your first message
Send your goal with a photo, plus the name and date of any filler you've had before. A coordinator passes them to your surgeon and replies with options and the matching price-list lines. Ask the one question that matters for your calendar: which day of my trip should I come in? When you come, I examine your lips and recommend the gel and amount that fit them.
Frequently asked questions
Does arnica make a lip filler bruise go away faster?
Studies on arnica after cosmetic procedures are mixed. Some people like using it, but it won't clear a bruise in a day. Ice in short spells on the first day is the more reliable step.
Can I cover a lip bruise with makeup?
Usually yes, once the needle marks have closed, which is often by the next day. Use clean products and avoid rubbing the lips hard while they're tender.
Should I stop aspirin or fish oil before lip filler?
Supplements and pain relievers you take for comfort can raise the chance of bruising, so ask before your visit whether to pause them. Never stop a blood thinner a doctor prescribed for a cosmetic treatment.
How do I tell a bruise from a lump?
A bruise is a flat colour change that fades through green and yellow. A lump is something you feel under the skin; small early lumps often soften as swelling settles. A lump that stays, hurts more or turns red should be checked.
When can I judge the final shape of my lips?
Swelling usually settles around two weeks after treatment, so that is a sensible time to decide whether you want more. Judging on day two, when lips are at their fullest, can be misleading.
