How long does chin filler take when you have about a week in Seoul and a flight home at the end of it?
Read this before you book the appointment or the flight.
By the end you'll know how the injection visit runs and what your chin usually looks like over the following days. You'll also know what decides the cost, which review claims hold up, and which method suits your chin. Then you can pick trip dates that fit your face and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kang Kyoungjin, Representative Director at Pascal Clinic in Seoul.
I hold an MD and a PhD in Anatomy, and I'm a former professor of anatomy at Daegu Catholic University School of Medicine. Pascal has plastic surgery and dermatology alongside its own oral and maxillofacial surgery team. So if your chin sits back because of the jaw itself, that conversation can happen within Pascal. We're a short walk from Sinsa Station, Exit 8.
I wrote this because people tend to plan the trip around the needle, which is the quick part, and leave too little time for the days after it.
The injection itself is usually a short part of one visit, and you see the new chin shape the same day. Swelling, tenderness and any bruising usually ease over the following days to about two weeks. Those days decide how long to stay.
If you're still choosing dates, send a front photo and a side photo of your chin on WhatsApp with your travel dates. Then ask one thing: how many days should I keep open after the injection?

Most chin filler today is a hyaluronic acid filler, a clear gel placed with a fine needle or a blunt cannula into the tissue over the chin bone. Many of these gels contain a local anesthetic, and numbing cream on the skin is common too. The time with the needle is usually short. The visit runs longer because the consultation and the numbing come first.
Your chin will look fuller right away. Part of that first look is fluid from the injection itself. That's why the shape you see in the mirror that evening isn't the shape you'll fly home with.
Plan the visit around our hours: Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00. We're closed on Sundays and public holidays, which matters if you land on a Saturday night.
How long does chin filler take to settle, day by day?
Chin filler swelling follows a fairly predictable curve for most people. The table shows the usual pattern and what it means for your plans. Your own chin may move faster or slower.
| When | What you usually notice | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Day of injection | Firmness, mild swelling, possible pinpoint bruises | Skip alcohol and hard exercise; a quiet dinner is fine |
| Next two to three days | Swelling often at its most visible, tender when you chew or touch | Keep plans light and don't press or massage the chin unless told to |
| End of the first week | Most swelling has eased, bruises fading | Photos and sightseeing usually feel normal again |
| Second week | The gel has settled into the tissue and the shape is clearer | The right time to judge whether you want more |
That last row is the one people skip. If you think you might want a little more projection, judging on the first or second day is a mistake. You'd be looking at gel plus swelling. Adding more into swollen tissue is how a chin ends up longer than the face around it. I would rather wait until the swelling has gone and then decide.
Chin filler recovery rarely stops normal life. The real question for a traveler is whether your dates leave room for that second-week look before you fly.
If that second-week check is the part you're unsure about, take a side photo in daylight with your lips relaxed and send it. Ask whether your dates leave enough room after the injection.

Say you're in your fifties, visiting family in Seoul for ten days, and your chin has receded a little with age. The lower face looks shorter in photos than it used to. In that situation I'd put the injection in the first two or three days of the trip. That leaves the swelling a full week to ease. It also lets you see the shape on your own face before the flight, and leaves time for a check if something feels off.
Now say you only have four or five days. The injection is still possible. But you'll fly home before the shape has fully settled, and any small adjustment would wait for another trip. Some people accept that trade, and that's a reasonable choice as long as you make it knowingly.
If you're thinking of combining it with eyelid surgery on the same trip, plan around the longer recovery. Our guide to buried-suture double eyelid surgery in Seoul explains that side of the calendar.
Which method fits your chin
As a doctor trained in anatomy, I look at what is short before choosing how to add. There are three different situations.
If the soft tissue over the chin is thin or has lost volume, a hyaluronic acid filler is usually the first option. It adds projection, the result shows the same day, and it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes the main types of dermal fillers and how their materials differ. You can read about dermal filler treatment at Pascal for the options we offer.
If you'd rather use your own tissue, we also offer facial fat grafting with liposuction. You heal in two places, the chin and the area where the fat is taken, so plan a longer stay than for filler.
If your chin sits back because of the jaw or your bite, filler only adds volume on top of the bone. It doesn't move the bone, and it doesn't change your bite. That's a jaw question, and our oral and maxillofacial surgeons, led by Dr. Choi, plan jaw surgery. Our post on why relapse is the main worry after double jaw surgery shows how different that recovery is. Likewise, if your concern is a wide mid-face, chin filler can balance it only so far, and cheekbone reduction is the bone-level option.
Doctor's note
I started in anatomy, and the chin is a good example of why. The mentalis muscle sits in the chin and helps lift the lower lip. When the chin is short, that muscle often strains to close the lips, and you can see the dimpling. I think about that muscle and the vessels around it before I think about the outline. A chin has to work well before it can look good.
What decides the cost of chin filler
The cost of chin filler comes down to a few things you can estimate before you travel:
- How much gel your chin needs, which follows from how much projection or length you want to add.
- Which product is used, since gels differ in firmness and in how they are priced.
- Whether other areas are treated in the same visit, such as the jawline or lips.
- Whether you want to plan a second visit to add more after the swelling settles.
- How many days you stay in Seoul, which is your travel cost, not the clinic's.
Pascal publishes its list prices on the site in Korean won. Final quotes follow your exam, because the right procedure and extent depend on your anatomy. If you message us on WhatsApp with your goal and clear front and side photos, a coordinator passes them to your surgeon and replies with options and the matching price-list lines. Ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, with those photos attached.
What reviews get right and wrong about chin filler
Review threads repeat a handful of claims. Here is how they line up with what is known medically.
“You see it immediately.” True for the shape. But part of the fullness on the first day is swelling, so the first-day mirror can mislead you in either direction.
“There's no downtime.” Partly true. Most people go about their day, but swelling, tenderness and bruising are common for several days. If you have a family dinner or photos planned, put them toward the end of the trip.
“It lasts for years.” Hyaluronic acid breaks down gradually, so the effect is temporary. The product, the amount and your own metabolism all change how long it holds. The American Academy of Dermatology's overview of fillers covers this.
“Chin filler makes the face look too long.” That happens, and the usual cause is too much product or more added before the swelling settled. It's an argument for patience, not against the method.
Risks and side effects to know
The common reactions are temporary: swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness and sometimes small firm spots under the skin. They usually ease over several days to about two weeks. The U.S. FDA's page on dermal fillers lists these among the common side effects.
As general medicine, it's wiser to wait or skip filler if any of these apply:
- an infection, inflamed acne or a cold sore near the chin
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- a known allergy to an ingredient in the gel or to local anesthetic
- a recent laser treatment or peel in the same area
- blood-thinning medication (tell the doctor, and don't stop it on your own)
The rare but serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel and blocking blood flow, which the FDA warns can damage skin and, rarely, affect vision. Warning signs are severe pain, skin that turns white or dusky, or any change in your vision. If that happens, get emergency care right away, wherever you are, including after you're home. Before you leave Seoul, note the name of the product and the amount used, so a doctor at home knows what's in your chin. The CDC's guidance on medical tourism also suggests planning follow-up care at home before you travel.
Individual results vary. Your surgeon confirms suitability at an in-person exam and explains the risks before you decide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fly home the day after chin filler?
Many people can fly within a day or two of a hyaluronic acid filler, but you'd be flying while the swelling is still visible. Leaving a few days before the flight also gives you time to have anything that feels wrong checked in Seoul.
Does the injection hurt?
Most people describe pressure and a brief sting rather than strong pain. Many filler gels contain a local anesthetic, and numbing cream on the skin is common, so the chin is usually numb within minutes.
Can chin filler be reversed if I don't like it?
Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. That is one reason it suits people trying a chin change for the first time. Fat grafting and jaw surgery can't be undone this way.
Can I exercise or drink alcohol after chin filler?
Doctors generally advise skipping strenuous exercise, alcohol and saunas for the rest of the injection day, because they can make swelling and bruising worse. Light walking around the city is fine.
Can I combine chin filler with other treatments on one trip?
Often yes, but plan the calendar around the treatment with the longest recovery. Surgery such as eyelid surgery or fat grafting needs more days than filler, so ask about the order when you send your photos.
