Fat Dissolving Injections Korea? Price Factors, Risks and Who They Suit

Are fat dissolving injections Korea worth a flight for one stubborn, pinchable spot?

Read on before you book anything.

After this post you will know what the injections do, who they suit, what can go wrong, and what the cost of fat reduction depends on, so you can decide whether a trip makes sense.

Hello, I'm Dr. Kang Kyoungjin, Representative Director at Pascal.

Pascal is in Gangnam, Seoul. I hold an MD and a PhD in Anatomy, I developed the SAFI lifting fat-grafting method, and we work with a fine cannula to remove or place fat without a large incision.

Many people assume injections act like a small liposuction for any area, including the belly, so they ask me about them for the wrong spots.

The short answer: they suit a few small, firm, pinchable areas, not weight loss. Pascal does not offer them, so if you are weighing a trip, cannula-based fat removal is what I can discuss with you.

What are fat dissolving injections and how do they work?

A fat dissolving injection puts a fat-damaging compound into a small fat pocket under the skin, and the body clears the broken-down fat over the following weeks. A well-documented ingredient is deoxycholic acid, which destroys fat cells where it is injected. The fat dissolving injections Korea clinics use follow the same idea as those sold elsewhere.

The FDA has approved one deoxycholic acid injection, and a generic version, for moderate-to-severe fullness under the chin in adults. That is the only area covered by that approval, as the FDA drug safety communication states.

Who do they suit, and who should look elsewhere?

Injections suit someone with a small, localized pocket, a healthy weight and skin that is firm enough to settle back. A double chin that sits above the jawline is the textbook example.

They do not suit belly fat removal without surgery on a large scale. A big area needs removal, not a few small deposits of a drug. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says liposuction itself is not a treatment for obesity, and an injection works on even less volume.

If you want fat placed rather than removed, as with hollow cheeks or face fat grafting Korea clinics perform, injections do the opposite job. If your cheeks look full because of bone structure, the answer may be a different procedure entirely, such as the one in our cheekbone reduction guide.

Doctor's note

Fat in the face sits close to nerves, vessels and muscle. That is why where a product goes matters more than what it contains. My background is anatomy, and it makes me wary of anything injected around the eyes or mouth without a clear map of what lies underneath.

Say you are in your thirties and have a small, firm pad under the chin that stays even when your weight is steady. You pinch it and it feels like soft tissue, not loose skin. I would start by checking whether it is fat at all, how thick it is, and whether the skin under it is tight enough to settle afterwards. If the pad is small and clearly fat, a limited approach may be enough to discuss.

If the skin is loose or the fullness comes from muscle or bone, injections would not address the cause, and I would explain what else is worth considering. I would also ask what you have already tried, and how many days you can spend in Korea before flying home.

What can go wrong with fat dissolving injections?

Common, temporary effects are swelling, bruising, numbness and tenderness where the injection went. The more serious risks come from where the product lands.

The FDA reviewed adverse event reports and the medical literature and added a warning that serious neuromuscular events can occur when deoxycholic acid is injected outside the under-chin area. It also warns of hard nodules or masses at injection sites that may not resolve on their own and may need medical treatment. The agency urges people to avoid unapproved fat-dissolving injections and says only health care providers should administer them.

For a traveler, the practical issue is the weeks after you leave. Swelling and nodules can appear days later. Ask who you contact at home, and what a local doctor would need to see.

What does Pascal offer instead?

In short, it is the same page that covers facial fat grafting and liposuction. Dr. Kang's focus areas include fat grafting, and the clinic lists activated cell therapy alongside it.

For the under-eye area, the question is usually bags and hollows, not a spot for an injection. Lower blepharoplasty with under-eye fat repositioning treats under-eye bags, hollows and lower-lid laxity. Which approach fits depends on whether you have bags, hollows or both. Fat grafting under eyes and under eye fat repositioning are different operations with different aims, and an exam sorts out which one your eyelid needs. See the lower blepharoplasty page for the detail.

Plastic surgery, dermatology and jaw surgery share one building in Gangnam, a short walk from Sinsa Station Exit 8. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00.

How do you vet any fat dissolving injections Korea clinic?

Treat the checklist below as criteria, not a ranking of anyone.

AskWhy it matters
Which compound, and approved for which area? The approved area is under the chin
Who injects it, and who is a doctor?Only health care providers should inject
What happens to a nodule at home? You will be abroad when it shows up
Is surgery a better fit for my area?Large areas rarely suit injections

The same questions apply to any fat dissolving injections Seoul Korea search result, including this one. If a clinic cannot answer them clearly, treat that as an answer.

What does the cost of fat reduction depend on?

The area and the amount of fat matter next, because a small chin pad and a larger area are not planned the same way. The number of sessions, the type of anaesthesia and the follow-up you need also change the total. If you travel, the days you stay in Korea add to the plan, since swelling and checks have to fit your schedule.

To get the figure for your case, send a photo of the area on WhatsApp and ask for it there.

Planning from abroad

Photos come first. Pascal's own FAQ says to message on WhatsApp with your goal and clear front and side photos. A coordinator passes them to your surgeon, who replies with options. Your surgeon confirms the plan at an in-person exam.

If you also have a previous procedure you are unhappy with, include its details. Pascal treats revision cases for eyelids, noses and scars, and you can read about the revision approach for scars.

What risks should I ask about before I travel?

When you come to Pascal, I examine you and recommend what fits your anatomy.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pascal offer fat dissolving injections?

Pascal's published treatment list does not include fat dissolving injections. It lists facial fat grafting and liposuction, lower blepharoplasty with under-eye fat repositioning, and other eyelid, nose, jaw and lifting treatments.

Can fat dissolving injections remove belly fat?

They are meant for small, localized pockets, not for large areas or weight loss. For a larger area, a surgeon may discuss liposuction instead, which is also not a treatment for obesity.

Can you inject under-eye fat to dissolve it?

Under-eye bags are usually a surgical question handled by lower blepharoplasty.

I went to get MiraDry treatment, and I liked that the building was huge and the nurses and receptionists were all friendly. Maybe because the director is so cheerful, they were joking around with each other, which created a great atmosphere that really helped ease my tension and made the procedure easier. I also liked that the director didn't seem authoritarian. Getting the anesthetic injection really, really hurts, but... once the anesthesia took effect, the procedure didn't hurt at all. It seems to take about 30 minutes for each side (left and right), and since the anesthesia takes about 10 or 15 minutes to activate, it's probably best to allow at least two hours for the visit. The procedure itself really didn't hurt, and I actually dozed off lol. It was great that the director kept checking to make sure I wasn't in pain throughout the session, and the nurses massaged my arms to make sure I was okay!
