Have you planned a Seoul trip and keep asking "lip filler how long until swelling goes down" because a flight or a photo comes right after?
Read this before you pick your appointment day.
You'll know what decides the cost, which claims in reviews hold up, how injection methods affect swelling, and which day of your trip to choose. That lets you match the plan to your calendar and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kang Kyoungjin, Representative Director at Pascal Clinic in Seoul.
I hold an MD and a PhD in anatomy, and fillers are one of my focus areas. Pascal has trained 25 visiting dermatologists from Russia in jawline and lip filler techniques. We are at Sinsa Station, Exit 8, and we close on Sundays and public holidays, which matters for your timing.
I wrote this because many people pick the injection day that looks convenient, when they should count back from the day their lips need to look settled.
For most people, visible swelling peaks in the first day or two and eases within three to five days. Mild fullness can last about two weeks.

Two things happen at once. The needle causes a small injury, and lip tissue reacts quickly because it is soft and has a rich blood supply.
The gel adds to it. Hyaluronic acid filler draws water, so part of the early fullness is the product taking up fluid.
I built my practice on anatomy, and I believe good results start from knowing the structure, not from feel. In a lip, structure explains something that scares people on day two: one side can look larger. Fluid collects unevenly, and a side with a small bruise often swells more.
Lip filler how long until swelling goes down: the usual timeline
Expect the obvious puffiness to fade within three to five days, with the last mild fullness gone by about two weeks. The FDA's dermal filler page says side effects such as swelling and bruising usually start soon after injection, and many resolve in a few days to weeks.
The ranges below are general patterns, so read them as a planning guide.
| When | What you may notice | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Injection day | Fullness, tenderness, small needle marks | Keep the evening free of plans that involve photos |
| Days 1–2 | Peak swelling, often more on waking, possible unevenness | Sightseeing is usually fine, but skip photos |
| Days 3–5 | Most visible swelling gone, bruises may still show | Makeup and a flight are often more comfortable from here |
| Days 6–14 | Mild firmness or small bumps that keep softening | Photos start to look closer to your final shape |
Swelling mostly changes how you look, and much less what you can do. The American Academy of Dermatology says people can return to everyday activities immediately after most fillers.
Doctor's note
Don't judge the volume on day three. A swollen lip gives you a false reading of how much gel is there, and adding more at that point means adding to a shape that is still changing. I would rather you wait until about two weeks have passed before deciding you want more.
Which day of your Seoul trip should you choose?
The search "lip filler how long until swelling goes down" usually hides a second question: when should I book? Count back from the fixed date in your trip.
For photos or an event, I would leave about two weeks. For a flight with nothing important after it, I would want at least four or five days, so the peak has passed while you are still in Seoul.
The clinic calendar matters too. We are open Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00. A Saturday injection puts the first day of peak swelling on a Sunday, when we are closed, so an early-week appointment gives you more open days during that stretch.
A trip of three or four days is the hard case. You would fly home around the peak, and that is mostly a cosmetic problem, yet you would also leave the city during the days you are most likely to have questions. If a wedding or a photo shoot follows straight after, I would move the injection to a longer trip.
Say you land on a Friday, have ten days, and fly out on the second Sunday after arrival. You could use Saturday for a consultation, and if the doctor agrees filler suits you, have the injection on the Monday. Peak swelling would then land midweek, and you would fly about 13 days later with most of it behind you.
If you've had lip filler before, add when it was done and the product name if you know it, and ask how that changes your dates.

Yes, to a degree. Four choices tend to move it: how much gel goes in, how firm the gel is, whether it goes along the border or into the body of the lip, and how many passes are made.
Some injectors use a fine needle and others a blunt cannula. A cannula may mean fewer entry points and less bruising for some people, though neither tool removes the swelling. A smaller amount usually swells less, and the AAD notes that some fillers require a few office visits, so a staged plan needs both visits to fit inside your trip.
For dermal fillers at Pascal, the gel and amount are chosen at a consultation. Hyaluronic acid gel can generally be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed, although that injection has its own risk of allergic reaction.
What do reviews get right and wrong about swelling?
"It was gone by the next morning." This can happen with a very small amount, but it isn't the usual pattern. The first two days are when swelling commonly peaks, so don't plan around this claim.
"Lumps in the first week mean it was done badly." Often untrue. Early bumps can be swelling or gel that hasn't settled. Don't massage them unless your injector tells you to. A lump that is hard, painful or still there after two weeks should be checked.
"You have to wait two weeks to fly." This seems to borrow from surgical advice. The CDC's medical tourism page suggests delaying air travel for 10–14 days after major surgeries, and lip filler is a far smaller procedure. The reason I'd keep a few days between injection and flight is access: you are still near the clinic during the peak.

Risks and side effects to know
Common reactions are swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness and itching. They usually fade over days to weeks. Individual results vary.
In general medicine, these are reasons to wait or skip treatment for now: a cold sore or infection near the lips, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an allergy to a filler ingredient. Tell your doctor about any earlier filler reaction and any blood-thinning medicine. Your surgeon confirms suitability at an in-person exam.
The serious risk is rarer. The FDA calls unintentional injection into a blood vessel the most concerning risk of fillers, with possible complications including tissue death, vision problems and stroke. Unusual pain, vision changes, discolored skin near the injection site or any sign of stroke need immediate medical care, wherever you are.
If a reaction appears after you fly home, go to local urgent care or an emergency department and show them the product name and date of injection. The CDC advises getting copies of your medical records before you leave the country, so ask for them while you are still in Seoul.
What decides the cost of lip filler?
Five things move your figure: the product, the amount, the areas treated, whether the plan takes more than one visit, and whether older filler needs attention first. Your days in Seoul affect the total trip budget as well.
We publish our list prices on the site in Korean won, before 10% VAT. Final quotes follow your exam, because the right procedure and extent depend on your anatomy.
To get a figure for your case, ask on WhatsApp with your goal and your photos. A coordinator passes them to your surgeon and replies with options and the matching price-list lines.
If your trip includes another treatment
Each procedure has its own recovery, so lip filler dates may need to move around it. Read about Mira Dry for underarm sweating, the buried-suture double eyelid method or cheekbone reduction surgery if any of those are on your list, then ask how they would line up.
When you come to Sinsa, you meet your doctor at the consultation, who examines your lips and recommends the gel, amount and timing that fit.
Frequently asked questions
Does ice help lip swelling after filler?
A cold pack wrapped in cloth, used for short periods on the first day, commonly helps with tenderness and puffiness. Don't press hard on the lips, and follow the aftercare you are given.
Should I avoid alcohol or exercise after lip filler?
Many doctors advise skipping alcohol, hard exercise, saunas and other heat for about the first day or two, because extra blood flow can add to swelling and bruising. Ask what applies to you.
Is it normal for one side of my lip to look bigger on day two?
Mild unevenness is common while swelling peaks, and it usually needs several more days before you can judge it. Severe one-sided pain or skin color changes are different and need urgent care.
Will a repeat lip filler session swell less?
Not reliably. Swelling depends more on the amount, the injection technique and how your tissue reacts that day, so plan the same buffer days even if your last session went smoothly.
When can I wear lipstick after lip filler?
Many injectors suggest waiting about a day so the tiny needle marks can close, which lowers the chance of irritation. Ask your injector, and use clean products when you start again.
