Korea filler expert: 5 beliefs worth checking

A Korea filler expert is a doctor who knows where the vessels and fat pads sit under each area and will tell you when filler is the wrong tool. Five common beliefs, checked against anatomy.

Korea filler expert: 5 beliefs worth checking | Pascal

A Korea filler expert, in the sense that protects your face, is a doctor who knows where the arteries and fat pads sit under each area and who will tell you when filler is the wrong tool. How many syringes they inject in a day tells you little about either. If you're reading this because filler at home left you with lumps, a heavy midface or lips that never settled, the question under your search is probably this: will anyone in Seoul just add more to a face that already feels like too much?

Through the H.A.R.T Global HCP Program, 25 dermatologists from Russia trained here in jawline and lip filler techniques, and doctors from Changchun, China came to Korea for cadaver-based anatomy lab practice at a Catholic medical school, then live training at Pascal.

If that heavy, overdone feeling is what brought you here, start with front and side photos taken in daylight, plus what you remember about the last filler: the area, roughly when, and whether any of it was dissolved. Send them on WhatsApp; a coordinator passes them to your surgeon and replies with options. Put the one question you most want answered at the top, such as whether the lump you can feel is filler at all.

Belief 1: does a Korea filler expert simply inject more?

No, and the faces that look overfilled show why. Many of them got there gradually, one touch-up at a time, each reasonable on its own. Hyaluronic acid gel holds water, and some of it lingers longer than people expect, so new layers sit on top of old ones. The puffy, rounded look people call pillow face is often accumulated filler, sometimes in a layer it was never meant for.

Restraint is part of the skill. For a face that already feels heavy, the more useful first step can be dissolving, or waiting, and then reassessing what volume is actually missing. A Korea filler expert who looks at your face and suggests less than you came in for is not underselling you. That restraint is what to look for in a Korean filler expert, whoever you book with.

Belief 2: can cheek or temple filler lift jowls and eyes?

Only a little, and only in some faces. Filler in cheeks to lift jowls works by restoring support high on the cheek, which can soften a mild jowl when the skin still springs back. When the skin and the tissue under it have descended, adding volume above them mostly makes the face wider and heavier. At that point the conversation is about lifting, and at Pascal that means options such as Ultherapy, thread lifting or a facelift.

Filler in temples to lift eyes follows the same logic. Temple filler fills a hollow at the side of the forehead, and for some people the outer brow looks a little better supported afterward. It won't change a hooded upper lid or a crease that sits too low. That is an eyelid question, the kind covered in our guide to buried-suture double eyelid surgery in Seoul.

Structure works the same way. If your midface looks wide because of the cheekbone itself, filler only adds to it, and the discussion moves to bone, as in cheekbone reduction surgery in Korea. A chin that sits back because of jaw position can be camouflaged with filler, but the underlying question is surgical, sometimes even after earlier jaw surgery, as in revision double jaw surgery.

Belief 3: after lip filler gone wrong, is filler off the table?

Usually not, but the order matters. Lip filler nodules have several causes. Some are product placed too close to the surface or in a clump, some are swelling or inflammation around the gel, and occasionally a lump appears months after the injection. Each is handled differently, so a Korea filler expert's first job here is the diagnosis, before any syringe.

Hyaluronic acid filler can generally be broken down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. That gives you a way back, with limits: the enzyme itself can cause swelling and, rarely, an allergic reaction, and other filler types don't dissolve this way. Many doctors prefer to let the lip settle after dissolving before planning anything new.

When lips are treated again, the lip filler shape ideas saved on your phone matter less than the lip you have. The border, the height of the upper lip and the way your mouth moves when you talk set the limits of what will look right in motion.

Belief 4: every area of the face carries the same risk

In short, it doesn't. The complication people fear most is vascular occlusion: filler entering or pressing on an artery so blood can't reach the skin beyond it.

Nose filler and forehead filler sit over vessels that connect toward the eye, so many doctors treat these as higher-risk areas and inject them slowly and in small amounts. Searches for vascular occlusion lip filler are common for a reason too: the lips have their own arteries running along each lip. Your result rests on how firm the gel is, how much goes in, and how well the injector knows where those arteries run.

Warning signs during or soon after injection include pain out of proportion to the needle, skin that turns pale or a blotchy purple, and any change in vision. Those need the injecting doctor or emergency care the same day, wherever you are.

The common effects are milder. The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash. Any procedure carries risks such as bleeding, infection and inflammation, and your surgeon explains them before you decide. Individual results vary.

Belief 5: a good photo is enough to plan the syringes

Photos help. They show proportion, asymmetry and where a face looks heavy. They can't show where old filler sits, how thick the tissue is, or how the face moves when you speak. Whether filler fits your face is confirmed by your surgeon at an in-person exam, and the amount and areas follow from that exam. Any Korea filler expert should want to see your face moving before deciding what goes in.

Doctor's note

I researched and taught anatomy at a university before I moved into plastic surgery, so I read a face in layers: bone, fat pads, muscle, vessels, skin. Good results start from knowing exactly where those structures are, not from feel. In a face that has already had filler, that matters more, because old product changes what the surface tells you. A face also has to work before it can look good, so how it moves when you smile weighs as much with me as how it looks at rest.

How many days should you plan in Seoul?

For filler, the aftercare here limits saunas, hot packs and hard exercise for one day, so plan at least one buffer day near the clinic before your flight home.

Pascal is at 157 Dosan-daero in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, a short walk from Sinsa Station (Line 3 and Shinbundang Line), Exit 8. We're open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 17:00, and closed on Sundays and public holidays, so check those against your flight days. Our dermal filler treatment page covers how filler is used to fill hollows and lines and refine facial contours.

Choosing a Korea filler expert from abroad also means planning for home. The US CDC's medical tourism guidance suggests arranging follow-up care before you travel and bringing copies of your medical records home. For filler, ask for the product name and the treated areas in writing, so a doctor at home knows what is in your face.

When you're ready, send your travel dates on WhatsApp with the name of your previous filler if you know it, and ask the one thing that has bothered you most since it went wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Can old filler be dissolved and new filler added on the same trip?

Sometimes, but many doctors prefer to let the swelling from dissolving settle before adding anything new. If both steps are on the table, ask at booking how many visits to allow for and leave spare days in your plans.

What should I bring from my previous filler treatment?

Any record of the product name, the date and the areas injected, plus notes on any dissolving. If you have no records, write down what you remember; even an approximate date and area help.

Which Pascal doctor works with fillers?

Fillers are among Dr. Kang Kyoungjin's focus areas, alongside eyelid surgery, fat grafting, lifting and skin. You meet your surgeon at your consultation.

How long does hyaluronic acid filler stay in the face?

The FDA notes that some dermal fillers are absorbed over time, which is why repeat treatments may be needed. How quickly that happens differs by product and area, and some gel stays longer than people expect, which is one reason layers build up.

Is pillow face reversible?

When the overfilled look comes from hyaluronic acid, it can usually be reduced with hyaluronidase, sometimes over more than one session. Other filler types and swelling from inflammation behave differently, so the cause has to be identified first.

I went to get MiraDry treatment, and I liked that the building was huge and the nurses and receptionists were all friendly. Maybe because the director is so cheerful, they were joking around with each other, which created a great atmosphere that really helped ease my tension and made the procedure easier. I also liked that the director didn't seem authoritarian. Getting the anesthetic injection really, really hurts, but... once the anesthesia took effect, the procedure didn't hurt at all. It seems to take about 30 minutes for each side (left and right), and since the anesthesia takes about 10 or 15 minutes to activate, it's probably best to allow at least two hours for the visit. The procedure itself really didn't hurt, and I actually dozed off lol. It was great that the director kept checking to make sure I wasn't in pain throughout the session, and the nurses massaged my arms to make sure I was okay!
