Can one day acne treatment in Korea really clear the breakout you have right now?
Read on before you book a flight, because the answer changes how many days you need.
After reading you will know what one visit can and can't do, what the cost depends on, which acne scars suit a short trip, and how to plan the flight home.
Hello, I'm Dr. Bae Seung-joo, Director at Pascal. My focus is scar reconstruction.
Scar revision at Pascal covers surgical and non-surgical treatment, chosen from the shape, depth and location of the scar. Plastic surgery, dermatology and oral & maxillofacial surgery share floors 6 to 8 of one building, a short walk from Sinsa Station, Exit 8.
I wrote this because many people assume a single day in Seoul can clear acne, when a breakout and a scar are different problems.
Short answer: one visit usually gives you an exam and a plan and, for some acne scars, a first session. Active breakouts are not cleared in that visit.

The skin you have today sets the limit. Breakouts need weeks of treatment, flat marks need time and sun protection, and textured scars may start in one session but rarely finish there.
| What your skin has now | What one visit can cover | What usually takes longer |
|---|---|---|
| Active breakouts: red bumps, pustules, cysts | An exam and a plan for what comes first | Weeks of treatment to bring breakouts under control |
| Flat red or brown marks left by acne | An exam and a sun-protection routine | Fading over months, sometimes helped by sessions |
| Rolling, boxcar or icepick scars | An exam, a choice of method, sometimes a first session | Most methods are given as a series |
| Raised scars | An exam and a plan built around skin tension | Treatment spaced out, with checks for regrowth |
Risks and side effects to know
The same page notes that some lasers require more sessions than others, and that a mild chemical peel is given as a series spaced weeks apart. So a single day describes the visit. The result usually builds across several.
Why can't active acne be cleared in a day?
New spots keep forming while old ones heal, so no single procedure switches active acne off. Breakouts are usually brought under control over weeks, with a routine you follow at home, before scar work starts.
Inflamed skin is also a poor base for lasers, peels or needling. The AAD notes that stopping breakouts reduces inflammation, which helps prevent new scars. If your face is mid-flare, a Seoul visit earns its place as an exam: which scars are already there, and what needs to settle first.
Medicines matter too. The AAD asks patients to tell their dermatologist about acne treatments used in the past two years, because starting some scar treatments while on, or soon after stopping, certain acne medications can cause side effects. A Korean acne treatment trip planned around that history wastes fewer days.
Which acne scars suit a short Seoul trip?
Scars that are few and clearly defined usually suit a short trip better than wide areas of uneven texture. A single deep scar can sometimes be removed and closed in one sitting, while broad rolling texture is typically treated in a series.
A scar looks different depending on its cause, depth, direction, height compared with nearby skin, and skin tension. Those same traits steer the method. A narrow, deep scar might be cut out and stitched. A shallow, rolling one tends to respond to skin treatments repeated over time. A raised scar is planned around tension and the chance it thickens again.
Korean acne scar treatment makes a scar flatter, narrower or less visible; it does not erase it. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes scar revision in similar terms, as minimizing a scar so it blends with the skin around it. Our guide to scar revision surgery in Seoul covers the surgical methods and their recovery, and the scar revision surgery treatment page lists what the procedure involves.
Doctor's note
Skin tension across a scar is the detail that changes a plan most, in my view. It decides whether cutting a scar out will help, or simply leave a new line under strain. A shallow scar on the cheek and a deep one near the jaw can need different plans on the same face, which is why a clear photo of the scar says more than the word acne in a message.
Say you have three days in Seoul and a few shallow scars on your cheeks left from acne that settled two years ago. Your skin is calm now, so the first thing I would look at is the depth and shape of each scar, because that decides whether a short trip makes sense. If the scars are suited to non-surgical treatment, a first session early in the trip leaves you a few days before your flight to see how your skin reacts. If they are deeper, I would tell you honestly that one visit gives you a plan and that the work is better spread over several visits.
Planning the days: exam, treatment, flight
A one day acne treatment in Korea fits best when the trip is built around clinic hours: Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sundays and public holidays. A Saturday exam followed by a Sunday flight leaves no clinic day to check how the skin settles.
There are roughly three versions of a single day:
- Exam only. You leave with options and a sense of how many visits they involve.
Ask about recovery for the exact method at your exam, and keep the return flight flexible until you've heard it. Our cheekbone reduction travel guide shows how follow-up visits shape a flight date, even though that is a far bigger operation. If you're adding another treatment to the same trip, the Mira Dry underarm sweat guide and the comparison of Ultherapy and Ultherapy Prime cover those on their own terms.
What can go wrong if you treat skin right before flying?
Redness, swelling and crusting are the common short-term effects. Less often, skin becomes infected or changes color. Darker skin is more prone to marks that darken after inflammation, and sun on freshly treated skin adds to that risk; the AAD notes that sun protection before a chemical peel helps prevent discolored skin after treatment.
Surgery adds its own list. Pascal's FAQ names bleeding, infection and inflammation, and your surgeon explains them before you decide. Raised scars can return thicker after treatment. Individual results vary. Whether a method suits your skin is confirmed at the in-person exam.
If you've taken an acne medicine in the past two years, add its name and roughly when you stopped to the WhatsApp message with your photos. That one line affects which treatments fit this trip and which should wait. A coordinator passes it to your surgeon along with the photos, so the options you get back start from your real history.

Dr. Bae Seung-joo focuses on scar reconstruction, facelift, nose and eyelid surgery. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon with a medical doctorate, trained in reconstructive plastic surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and has served as a university hospital professor and head of plastic surgery. His scar cases are published on the clinic's site, and his profile and past positions are listed in full.
What decides the cost of acne treatment in Korea?
The cost depends first on what your skin needs: an active breakout and an old scar are treated differently. Then it depends on the method, whether surgical or non-surgical, and on the area and number of scars. Some scars need a series of sessions rather than one, which changes how many days you stay in Korea. Anaesthesia and follow-up after you fly home also play a part. To get the figure for your case, send clear front and side photos on WhatsApp and ask what your skin would involve.
Follow-up once you're home
Your home doctor handles day-to-day follow-up, so carry the details with you. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to get copies of their records and to arrange follow-up care at home before the trip.
Write down the method used, the date, and every product you were told to apply. Show that note to your dermatologist at home. Spreading redness, warmth, pus or fever are reasons to be seen promptly.
A two-part plan often fits: breakouts handled with your home doctor first, then a Seoul visit focused on scars once the skin is calm.
When you've picked your window, send front and side photos of your skin and the dates you're considering on WhatsApp, with one question: what can be done in the days I have? A coordinator passes your photos to your surgeon and replies with options. When you come to Seoul, I examine your skin and recommend what fits, whether that is a one day acne treatment in Korea built around an exam or a longer stay built around a series.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fly home the day after an acne scar treatment?
That is decided by the method. Skin treatments often leave redness or swelling for a short time, while scar removal with stitches needs a follow-up visit before you fly. Ask about recovery for your specific method at the exam, and keep the return flight flexible until then.
Is Korean acne scar treatment different from treatment at home?
The methods belong to the same families you will find elsewhere: peels, lasers, needling, fillers and surgery. What changes for a traveler is the schedule, because a series of sessions or a stitch check has to fit around flights. Plan the number of trips before the first session.
Should I stop my acne medicine before coming to Seoul?
Do not stop or change a prescribed medicine on your own. Tell the clinic which acne treatments you have used in the past two years, as the AAD advises, because some scar treatments should not start while on, or soon after stopping, certain acne medicines. Your prescribing doctor at home decides about the medicine itself.
Can an acne scar be removed completely?
No. Treatment can make a scar flatter, narrower or less visible, but it does not erase it. How far it improves is shaped by the scar's depth, direction and the skin tension around it.
